Digital Media Online

I think one of the most important things to explore when looking at ideas about digital media is the ability to use it and create it in different ways. In this section we are looking at digital photography and how artists have used media in various ways in order to enhance their photographs and artwork.

Along with photography, I am really interested on how these ideas work related to the web. Obviously print photographs can be digitally altered, but because of my interest in web design I also wanted to explore how these techniques could be used in the Internet world. Because my focus in integrative arts is graphic design, I started looking into how this topic would be relevant to my work and career and how I may be using it in the near future.

There is a really cool design firm located in Austin, TX that is constantly changing their website and adding new stuff to their online portfolio. The flash site is significantly changed once a year and has just been updated for 2009. Within the site there is actually a customization option which makes the site interactive. Along with some print and web design, they also have a really awesome photography section that features digitally retouched photography. It is interesting to look at this type of work because it is completed with the clear goal of marketing or advertising some kind of product or person. They show a really wide range of images and compositions. Check out the website at:

And again check back often because they are constantly updating…

  1. When I first saw the site I thought it was very clever how they let you puck your current 'mood' for which scene you would view the art works. At, first I thought that the content would be separated by each mood and thought that would be very unique. But I was kind of disappointed when I found that each mood sent you to the same set of pieces. The way they combined the flash and photography I agree, though, is very interesting and they do advertise they're products very cearly.

  2. I think that is honestly one of the coolest websites I've been to. The mix of interactivity and just plain good design is really refreshing and fun to see and use. I agree that it would have been better to have different pieces for each mood to encourage the viewer to explore them all. The work itself, however, was sublime. I particularly enjoyed the wall murals made for the restaurant. I am also interested in graphic design, and I thought that their work was all very successful and fun.

  3. Numerous WebPages that I have come across recently have begun to update periodically. The layouts change every few months to keep viewers entertained, but also keep many navigational elements intact as to not make it difficult for viewers to navigate throughout the site. Also, customizable WebPages are very common now as well. Many WebPages offer color changes, music preference changes as well as font colors and much more. The idea to constantly refresh public visuals extends beyond the internet as well. The XBOX 360 had a very unique dashboard design when first released, however, over time this dashboard began to dull according to Microsoft developers, and because of this, they created a new dashboard with much more customizable features and the implementation of avatars to please owners.

  4. This is a nice website. I wasn’t sure what the site was about when I first visited but after staying there for a while, I was able to locate the link to the gallery. Although my major is iDs (computer graphics), I develop websites as a hobby. I enjoyed their flash animation- it’s simple and effective. You should check out wix.com. They provide free flash websites and one of the key things about their system is how interactive everything is. I had to make a quick portfolio for one of the summer internships I was applying for and it was quite helpful.

  5. That is a really interesting website. I do find it frustrating when a company uses pop-ups this day and age. So many web browsers block them, it proves to be unwise to make a website layout that depends on them. I really enjoy the fact that you can navigate the site based upon your mood and interests; however, the website’s background is really distracting when you are trying to look at their galleries.
It really impresses me that a company will take the time to update their gallery on a regular basis. One of my biggest pet peeves is when a company only has very old work uploaded to their website for display from when they first built the site. Also, the fact that the company takes the time to freshen their site up once a year to keep people coming back is really exciting. I also want to enter the Graphic Design industry, and seeing high quality work like this is really inspiring.
